Poultry feed availability and nutrition in developing countries Alternative feedstuffs for use in poultry feed formulations

چکیده
Global consumption of poultry products, especially poultry meat, has consistently increased over the years, and this trend is expected to continue. Much of the increase in global demand for poultry products will be in developing countries. Such growth in the poultry industry is having a profound effect on the demand for feed and raw materials. However, it is also becoming clear that the requirements for the four traditional feed ingredients – maize, soybean meal, fishmeal and meat meal – cannot be met, even according to optimistic forecasts. The gap between local supply and demand for these traditional ingredients is expected to widen over the coming decades, providing a compelling reason for exploring the usefulness of locally available, alternative feedstuffs in feed formulations. A wide range of alternative feedstuffs are available for feeding in all three poultry production systems. The greatest potential for efficiently utilizing these feedstuffs will be in traditional family poultry systems (scavenging and backyard) and the semi-commercial system. In the semi-commercial system, only part of the feed requirement is purchased from commercial compounders, so there is opportunity for on-farm mixing or dilution of purchased feeds with locally available, alternative feedstuffs. In low-input family poultry systems, locally available, alternative feedstuffs can be used to supplement the scavenging feed base.

Broiler Performance in Response to Phytate and Supplemented Phytase
Phosphorus (P) is a macro mineral in broiler nutrition. In growing broilers, besides its requirement for proper bone development, it is also involved in almost all metabolic processes. Poor P availability results in decreased productivity and poor health status.Phosphorus availability from plant derived feeds is affected by an anti-nutritional factor “phytate”, which forms a variety of insolubl...
متن کاملAmino acid digestibility and poultry feed formulation: expression, limitations and application
The nutritional value or quality of dietary proteins used for poultry feed formulation varies: amino acid availability is an important measure of protein quality. Determination of ileal digestibility values has become the preferred method for estimating amino acid availability. This review discusses the different approaches to the expression of digestibility results, including correction for en...
متن کاملImpact of Acidified Sodium Chlorite and Enzyme Treatment on the Microbial Load and Energy Bioavailability of Feedstuffs
The presence of microbial load and high fiber content in various non conventional feedstuffs limit their utilization in poultry feed. In the present study, the feedstuffs were treated with acidified sodium chlorite (ASC) and its impact on the microbial load and metabolizable energy availability was assessed in the chickens. The effect of supplementation of feed grade enzyme was also evaluated...
متن کاملFuture trends and developments in poultry nutrition
This paper gives recognition to the recent rapid technological, scientific and industrial changes that have taken place in the poultry sector, and uses these as a baseline for the prediction of future trends in nutrition. It is predicted that elevated levels of poultry feed will be required, in the fast-developing poultry sectors of Asia in particular, to meet the burgeoning consumer demand for...

Both plant and animal ingredients are used commonly to formulate balanced diets for poultry. Although many changes have been occurred in the genetics, nutrition and feeding of modern meat chickens, free selection and indiscriminate uses of feedstuffs for the non-ruminant animal diets can be hazardous due to the emerging threat of diseases outbreak via animal by-products. Besides this, many othe...
